Structure Inventory Shapefile

The "Import From Point Shapefile" dialog box will open. We have to select the point shapefile that represents a structure inventory for an area and contains information on structure occupancy types, population, structure values, foundation height, construction type, and other information.

Browse to and select the point shapefile that will serve as the Structure Inventory Shapefile.

A structure inventory has required attributes that will be used in an LifeSim study, so you must provide information about those attributes in the selected point shapefile.

From the Import Attributes column, for each listed Required Attribute, you must select from a list the field name of the attribute in the selected point shapefile.

For example: For the Occupancy Type required attribute, you have to select the corresponding attribute field. In this case it's called "occtype".

Foundation Height (ft)
Ground Floor Height (ft)

Add a Name, for example "Structure".
And select the Missing checkbox for the missing informations.

Then, click Next.

Default Occupancy Type Assignments

Each structure is required to have an occupancy type. Occupancy types are a subcategory of the default damage categories assigned to a study and describe a class of structures.

For example, RES1- 1SNB is a single family residential structure that is one story tall with no basement.

From the point shapefile, LifeSim tries to match up the occupancy type names to the occupancy type IDs that exist in the model.

If the default selection is not correct, from the list the user can change the assignment from the Default Assignment dropdown menu

If you don't have other information, just leave it as default and click Next.

Stability Criteria Assignment

LifeSim provides a list default rules for assigning stability criteria (Figure 5-8).

For example, the Rule List includes Steel Buildings Collapse Criteria.

If a default rule in the Rule List is not desired, then the user can remove the rule by clicking on the X. Default rules can also be modified.
